******************************************** EVENT SYPNOSIS ********************************************
In conjunction with the presentation of Cantonese Opera "Dream Of The Red Chamber" by Chinese Theatre Circle (CTC) in collaboration with Kreta Ayer Community Club Cantonese Opera Group in June 2014 at the Drama Centre Theatre, Mr Leslie Wong, playwright of the Opera will be conducting a workshop in Cantonese at the Kreta Ayer Community Club on Sunday 18 May 2014 from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm. Although conducted in Cantonese, the audience may ask questions in English or Mandarin.

"Dream Of The Red Chamber" is the most influential Chinese novel in the history of Chinese literature. It is also the novel most extensively discussed and debated by Chinese scholars, within and without the "Red School of Thought". It is commonly believed that the first eighty chapters were written by Cai Xue Jin, a great scholar during the Qing Dynasty and the remaining forty chapters written by another scholar Liu Er after him. In this workshop, Leslie Wong will discuss the authorship and contents as well as the literary values of this novel, besides explaining how he went about rewriting the script for the coming presentation. The workshop will also feature Ms Ang Cheng Hong and Ms Chan Mei Leng, leading artists for the roles of Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu respectively, performing several songs written by Leslie Wong. Tickets at $20.00 (inclusive of Tea). Ticket price does not include administrative fee. Senior citizens above 60 years old, students, and Passion cardholders are entitled to 20% discount.

Tickets available at Chinese Opera Teahouse, 5 Smith Street, (Chinatown). Online booking: www.botempus.com/ctc. Seats are on a first-come-first-served basis.
